Here's Nicks super sleek xs400. When Nick came to us, he ordered a dolphin tank and seat set up for xs650. We didn't know that he was going to use it for xs400. With some mods on his part, he got it to work for his xs400 project. I'm glad he did cuz the bike came out really nice. The bike looks super sleek narrow and streamline.
Here is some info on Nick's 1981 Cafe racer build.
The bike started off as a1981 Yamaha XS400 Special II. From the start i was set on using a Benjie's Dolphin Fiberglass tank and tail section. Benjie's does not make a kit specifically for the Xs400 so i has it made for a Yamaha Xs650. When I was finally received the parts I found out that the triple backbone on the xs400 was going to make this project a lot more than I anticipated. I modified the frame and triple backbone to accept the Benjie's tank and it went from there. All electrical was moved under the seat retaining electric start. I custom fabricated the Dual High pipe exhaust which turned out pretty cool albeit pretty loud 🙂 I had seen so smaller twin cylinder CC bikes running a two into one carbs and thought that was unique idea. I also had an issue with the petcock location on the Benjie's tank and the stock carbs so I decided to have a 2 into 1 manifold fibbed up. It is running a stock single BS34 Mikuni Carburetor with larger jetting. Rear shocks were upgraded to 14.5" to clear the Cafe seat and large Vintage Firestone Champion tires. A few other details like custom rear sets. Tachometer delete and adjustable clip on bars were added. Corvette Cyber Gray metallic with black stripes was laid down on the fiberglass parts.
I have attched a couple of pictures and also a link to my Dotheton build thread.
